Limit Sporting Activities to Regions in Stage 3 and Reconsider Non-Essential Travel
Kingston— As cases of COVID-19 rise in some areas of the province, The Chief Medical Officer of Health is urging all Ontarians to limit trips outside of home, except for essential purposes only such as work, school, grocery shopping, medical appointments, and outdoor physical activity. In addition, travel to other regions in the province, especially from higher transmission to lower transmission areas, should only be for essential purposes.
With the goal of preventing local COVID-19 transmission and outbreaks, KFL&A Public Health is reminding sports leagues to limit sporting activities with other teams that are within regions designated by the Province of Ontario as Stage 3 according to the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020 and to not play teams that are in Stage 2.
“Travel to areas where there is more COVID-19 transmission increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19,” said Dr. Kieran Moore, Medical Officer of Health at KFL&A Public Health. “Staying home when you are sick and staying local is the best way to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.”
The areas currently designated in Stage 2 include Toronto, York Region, Peel Region, and Ottawa; however, these areas may continue to change, please monitor and restrict your play to teams in Stage 3.
