Back to SearchMarch 11, 2022, has been designated as a National Day of Observance to commemorate the people who lost their lives to COVID-19, and to acknowledge the significant impacts of the pandemic.
“Today, we mourn the tragic loss of more than 37,000 Canadians, including 34 members of our community, due to COVID-19,” said Dr. Piotr Oglaza, Medical Officer of Health at KFL&A Public Health, “Over the past two years, our lives have been profoundly altered. Every single person has been affected by the pandemic, especially those that have lost loved ones. COVID-19 has impacted how we work, learn, and connect with family, friends, and each other. We grieve these losses as well.”
As we reflect on the immeasurable impacts of COVID-19, let us also take a moment to reflect on the resiliency and resourcefulness we have demonstrated as a community. May these attributes also be a part of the COVID-19 legacy in KFL&A.
On this National Day of Observance, we ask you to take a moment to:
- Honour those we have lost.
- Recognize how COVID-19 has impacted each of us, our families, friends and neighbours.
- Pay tribute to all who continue to make incredible sacrifices in our fight against COVID-19.
We all continue to have a role to play in ending this pandemic.
“I would like to remind everyone of the importance COVID-19 vaccination,” said Dr. Oglaza, “Vaccines have lowered the severity of illness and hospitalization in our region, and we must recognize and thank residents for rolling up their sleeves, getting vaccinated, and creating a strong and safe level of protection in KFL&A.”
